IS THIS A RED FLAG OR I AM JUST OVER THINKING?
CHAPTER 1 - 3
UNRAVELING LIES
Alicia’s heart raced as the two identical wolves—Liam and Bertram—faced her, each claiming to be her mate, Asher. A deep sense of disbelief gnawed at her insides. How could this be? She thought she had escaped the lies. But here they were, playing their sick games. She could feel the sting of betrayal twist her stomach as she prepared to confront them.
‘Funny,’ Alicia finally spoke, her voice dripping with sarcasm. ‘Father and son, fighting over a luna. How desperate,’ she continued, lifting her chin with pride, hiding the fear gnawing at her insides. Her eyes met theirs with cold defiance, masking the vulnerability she felt beneath.
The two wolves paused their theatrical display and exchanged confused glances. They had never seen her so unaffected by their attempts. Slowly, they turned their gaze back to her, still unsure of how to proceed.
‘I know exactly what you came for,’ Alicia said, her tone shifting from sarcastic to cold. ‘You’ve been playing this game for too long, and I’m done with it. Let’s end this charade once and for all.’
Liam’s wolf, his features still contorted into the face of Asher, narrowed his eyes, his confusion growing. Bertram, still in the guise of her mate, snarled softly, trying to regain control of the situation.
‘What do you mean?’ Liam growled, his voice laced with false sincerity. ‘Alicia, come closer and confirm for yourself. Don't mind this impersonator here, I am the real Asher. I am your destined mate.’
Alicia raised a brow, unamused by the theatrics. ‘Please. Spare me the lines. I’ve had enough of them.’
Liam and Bertram exchanged a glance, but this time, there was no understanding between them. They were no longer in control.
‘You’ve been playing with magic that doesn’t belong to you,’ Alicia continued, her voice icy as her gaze never wavered. ‘Stealing my mate’s image, using witchcraft to control fate. You’ve gone too far.’ Her words hung heavy in the air, each one punctuated by the weight of the truth.
Bertram shifted, his wolf form losing its shape as the two werewolves slowly reverted to their true selves. The facade was shattered.
‘Well, well,’ Alicia whispered, a dangerous smile creeping across her lips. ‘Now that we’re done with the games, let’s talk about what comes next, shall we?’
Liam and Bertram stood before her, now stripped of their illusions. But there was no shame in their eyes—only calculation.
‘You think you can stop us?’ Bertram sneered, his gaze darkening. ‘We’ve gone to great lengths to get what we want. Now, you will either come willingly, or you will never see Asher again. You will end up miserable.’
Alicia’s silver eyes flickered with power as she stepped forward, her presence commanding. ‘I sense a threat in the air, now that it has finally been resolved to a threat, let’s see who ends up miserable first.’
Bertram laughed, his voice low and dangerous. ‘Stop acting high and mighty. You were once cursed by your pack, remember? Surrender to us, and we’ll give you value, something your so-called power can never grant you. You are worth nothing now—come to me, and you won’t regret it.’
Alicia’s lips curled into a devilish smile. ‘Make me,’ she said softly, her tone venomous.
Her silver hair shimmered in the dim light, crackling with supernatural energy as Alicia became a force to reckon with. The air around her hummed with power, lightning crackling at her fingertips. She had long ago stopped fearing her power; now, it was her weapon.
Liam and Bertram hesitated for only a moment before they lunged, shifting into their werewolf forms. The air around them thickened with energy as they began their attack, their claws sharp and their fangs bared. But Alicia was faster, moving like wind—dodging their blows with grace, her power pulsing around her in waves.
The battle raged on, but Alicia’s calm demeanor remained unwavering. With a flick of her wrist, energy bolts erupted from her hands, each one landing precisely where it needed to. Liam and Bertram struggled to get close to her, their attacks futile as she weaved around them, her eyes glowing with an inner fury.
Suddenly, Liam lunged forward with a sword imbued with dark magic, its edges glowing with dangerous power. Alicia’s instincts kicked in, her senses heightening. She could already feel the flow of the dark magic, anticipating his next move.
Without warning, Alicia vanished in a blur, reappearing behind Liam in the blink of an eye. She snatched the sword from his hand with ease, sending a shockwave of energy through the air. Liam staggered, disoriented, but Alicia was already on him, her movements fluid and precise.
‘Where did she go?’ Liam shouted, his voice tinged with panic as he spun around, looking for her.
‘Come out, coward,’ he taunted, but his words were lost as Alicia appeared before him in an instant. Her eyes glinted with power as she slammed him to the ground, her hands pushing him into the dirt with inhuman strength.
With a final, brutal push, Alicia sent Liam crashing into the earth with a thunderous impact. His body went limp, the life drained from him in an instant. The forest fell silent, the tension dissipating.
Bertram, still reeling from the shock, wasted no time. He summoned a cloud of blue mist, a paralysis spell intended to immobilize Alicia. But Alicia was already on the move. She raised her hand, creating a wall of bricks from the ground to shield herself. The mist clung to her barrier, but it didn’t touch her.
‘Alpha Bertram,’ Alicia called, her voice laced with cold authority. ‘You, of all wolves, should know that dark magic is forbidden in this realm. I should make an example of you to anyone else daring to walk this path.’
‘You’re no saint, Alicia,’ Bertram sneered, his teeth bared. ‘Cut the act. You’re just lucky to be the vessel of the moon goddess.’
Alicia’s silver eyes narrowed. ‘And you’re lucky I’m not as merciful as I once was.’ With a wave of her hand, the bricks shot forward, crashing into Bertram. He screamed as the impact sent him sprawling, his body breaking under the weight. His spine shattered, and he crumpled to the ground, groaning in pain.
Bertram, barely conscious, struggled to lift his head. ‘Do you think I’m your only enemy?’ he hissed through clenched teeth. ‘There’s someone stronger out there. Someone who will never let you reach Asher. You can’t escape him—either be his mate or become a beast.’
Alicia was very much aware of this. Werewolves who have already found their mate cannot stay apart from them for a long time, if they do, their lifespan reduces and their health deteriorates but it is a different case for Alicia because of the enormous power she possesses. She either finds another mate or gradually turns into a beast.
I am aware of that, Alicia replied, she allowed her Luna to take her shape and she ran as fast as she could.
Alicia's expression hardened. She knew the truth of his words. Werewolves who had found their mates couldn’t stay apart for long without their health deteriorating. But Alicia was different. Her powers had always set her apart, and they had kept her alive despite the agony she felt.
‘I know what I’m up against,’ she whispered, turning to leave. 'And I will find Asher'.
She ran deep into the wilds, covering several miles. Hours passed, and she gradually halted as memories of her mate came flowing back into her memory, she broke down and wept bitterly.
I am sorry Asher, I am so sorry, I should have trusted you, I should have given you a chance. Alicia said, weeping in between her words.
The burden on my shoulders is beyond me, moon goddess please find him, help fight this battle, these powers? this strength? I don't want them anymore, just bring him back to me. She continued weeping, but no response came from the moon goddess. She thought of how some leader of other realms came after her to either take her life or make her willing to agree to be their mate.
Frustration ate her up, and she stood up and ran angrily into a big tree, she forcefully slammed her right palm into the tree, the tree very looking healthy tree dried up instantly and fell to the ground turning into dust. She had loosed all rationality. She had plans to stop, she wanted to take out all aggression when she saw what scared her the most.
The skin on Alicia’s right hand was gradually turning into scales.
What is this? Alicia asked her wolf, Luna are you there? Alicia asked again but there was no response from her.
Alicia wept till she had no strength to continue,
Do you wish that you end up like your mother? You will not only turn into a beast, but your soul will also no longer be yours. You can’t save your mate unless you face reality, Alicia.
Alicia jolted from her sleep, she looked left and right to see who was speaking to her but she saw no one.
Not again, Alicia complained. She threw herself back, lying on the bed again.
Of what use is the dream if I am not as powerful in reality, my mind is beginning to play tricks on me. Alicia said, laughing at herself.
My imaginations are taking the best part of me.
Alicia does not understand why she kept having the same dream for the past two weeks, she had complained to the head priest of her pack, but he did nothing about it. What troubled her the most was that she couldn't recall the names of those she was fighting, and she wouldn't remember their faces, so she assumed its been her imagination.
Heavy footsteps caused Alicia to look straight at the door fearfully, She wondered who they were. Her heart quickened as the footsteps moved closer to her room.
The footsteps stopped right in front of her room and the door opened suddenly.
Alicia screamed fearfully.
“Alicia! I hope you’re ready—the ceremony begins in ten,” Edward’s voice boomed from outside the door.
"Right, yes, Dad," I replied, trying to mask the nervous tension in my voice.
Edward, my father, was the Alpha of the Amber Pack. He had been a steadfast father, doing his best to provide for me after my mother's death. Yet, despite his constant support, I couldn't shake the feeling that he blamed me for her passing. It was a weight I carried silently, knowing it was something I would never be able to voice.
Edward swung open the door, clearly surprised by my startled reaction. "Why did you scream like that?" he asked, his brow furrowed in concern.
“I’m sorry,” I said, rubbing my eyes as I tried to calm my breath. “I wasn’t expecting you to open the door without knocking. I heard heavy footsteps approaching my room.”
“Oh, that’s just Gamma and Beta. They're in the living room. They weren’t coming this way,” Edward explained, though his furrowed brows suggested he was still puzzled by my reaction.
“I must be hearing things then,” I said, sitting on the edge of my bed, my thoughts racing.
Edward’s sharp gaze swept over me. “You don’t look like you’re ready for this ceremony. You’re all over the place.”
It was then that it hit me. My heart skipped. I was running out of time for the inauguration. I rushed to get ready, but my thoughts were scattered. As I grabbed my clothes, I couldn’t help but joke, “Dad, what kind of Luna has no maidservant to dress her for her inauguration?”
Edward frowned, an edge to his voice. “We’re not having this conversation. Get dressed and be out in five minutes.”
“Dad!” I said in frustration.
Edward held up a finger to his lips in a silencing gesture. “Go, now.”
I let out a frustrated sigh, dropping my head in resignation as I made my way to the bathroom.
The ceremony was set to be the most important day of my life—the culmination of a fate I didn’t fully understand or trust. As the priest, Ryden, raised his arms to announce the final stage of the Silvermoon Ceremony, a heavy sense of dread settled in my chest.
“We have arrived at the final stage of the sacred Silvermoon Ceremony," Ryden announced, his voice booming through the hall. "Our Alicia will be crowned the Luna and female Alpha of the Amber Pack."
I had just turned eighteen. The eyes of the pack members were on me, their expectations weighing heavily on my shoulders. The crowd wanted to believe in me, to hope that the only daughter of the late vessel of the Moon Goddess could be their savior. But deep inside, I didn’t believe in myself.
Priest Ryden turned to me and gave a small nod. "Say the prayers, Alicia."
I closed my eyes, the weight of my emotions threatening to overwhelm me. "I hope this ceremony ends the turmoil I’ve lived through and grants me the freedom I’ve longed for. I hope the Moon Goddess will finally make me the next vessel," I whispered through trembling lips, my tears slipping down my cheeks.
The prayer I had just spoken held more weight than anyone could imagine. It took everything in me to stand here, to face my destiny. Maybe I was selfish, but right now, I needed my sanity, my peace, more than I needed anything else.
The first light of dawn began to spill across the horizon, and that’s when I felt it—an overwhelming sensation, a shiver that crawled down my spine. It wasn’t just the coldness of the morning air; it was something more sinister. My nerves tingled, and every part of me screamed that something was terribly wrong.
The hair on the back of my neck stood up as a group of shadowy figures appeared around me, cloaked in darkness. They surrounded me in a tightening circle. My heart raced, panic setting in as I tried to make sense of the situation.
Before I could react or think of an escape, the figures seized me, their grip iron-clad. I gasped, “Let go of me!” but a cloth was immediately pressed against my mouth, muffling my words.
I tried to open my eyes, but the blackness around me swirled, and fear gripped my heart. No one was coming to my aid. I looked around desperately, my heart sinking when I saw my pack members standing by, watching me with blank expressions. None of them moved, not a single person intervened.
Panic surged in my chest as I struggled against my captors, but their strength was overwhelming. In a matter of moments, I was whisked away, leaving my pack behind, their indifference stinging more than I cared to admit.
The world around me spun wildly as I was shoved into the cold interior of a dark carriage. I tried to fight back, but it was as if some unseen force had drained me of my strength. My body felt weak, fragile, and my thoughts were clouded by confusion and fear.
“Can’t you see? The pack you call your own doesn’t care about you,” a soft, cruel voice whispered into the silence of the carriage. "Aren’t you glad they abandoned you? Your father, your pack—they did nothing."
I shivered at the words, my heart sinking deeper with every sentence. “Do they hate me that much? My father always defended me. Why didn’t he protect me now? Why did he just stand there and watch me get taken?”
Tears blurred my vision as I struggled against my restraints, the memories of my past playing on an endless loop in my mind. The whispers of the pack’s cruel judgment echoed in my ears, words that had haunted me my entire life.
“You’re a curse to this pack,” they would say. "You’re the reason your mother died."
The words rang in my head, cruel and unyielding. "Why didn’t the Moon Goddess take me instead?" they had whispered. “What kind of blessing is this?”
The humiliation had followed me like a shadow, and now it was here, a physical reminder of everything I had suffered. They had always blamed me for my mother's death. And now, I was nothing but a pawn in a game I didn’t understand.
The carriage lurched to a stop, and the door swung open. As I was pulled out, I overheard one of my captors talking to someone in the distance.
"Inform our Alpha. Mission accomplished. We’ve brought her here," he said, his tone flat, as though it were a simple task.
My heart skipped. Mission accomplished? What did they want with me? Why was I here?
The footsteps faded, leaving me in an eerie silence. Panic clawed at my insides as I tried to gather my bearings. I could hear them moving away, their retreating footsteps growing fainter by the second. My mind raced, and my body trembled as I began to untie the ropes around my wrists.
As I freed myself, I removed the bag that had covered my head. My eyes blinked against the harsh light, and then I froze, my breath catching in my throat.
Two pairs of breathtakingly beautiful eyes stared back at me—deep, intense, and mysterious.
My heart skipped a beat as I locked eyes with the stranger. His presence overwhelmed me, and for a moment, I was completely lost in him. His eyes seemed to pierce through my very soul, dragging me deeper into his gaze. I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think. My wolf stirred inside me, urging me to look closer, to feel this connection.
But I snapped myself back to reality. I couldn’t afford to fall for someone, not now, not when my life was on the line.
“Who are you?” The voice was calm, deep, and threatening all at once, forcing me to snap back to the present.
I froze, my body shaking. That voice—it sounded so familiar, like something from the depths of my past I couldn’t quite remember. It chilled me to the core.
His figure stepped forward, and I instinctively recoiled. “Don’t come closer,” I managed, my voice shaking with a mix of fear and anger.
He stopped, narrowing his eyes. "How did you get here?" His voice was low, dangerous, as though he was losing his patience.
I couldn’t take it anymore. The anger surged in me. "Are you asking me now?" I shouted. "Did you not send your dogs to abduct me? Don’t play games with me!”
The man—no, he was more than a man, more than anyone I had ever met—looked at me with a smirk. “I see you’ve got guts. Your mood swings are… interesting. You didn’t just break into my territory; you had the audacity to yell at me?" His voice was calm, but the air around him turned cold, his power palpable.
The pack’s security guards also heard the trifle but they dare not leave their post to intervene in such matters especially the one that concerns Asher.
My Lord, your uncle ordered that we bring her here, My kidnapper with the familiar voice happened to hear us throw insultive questions at each other from a distance, he ran as fast as he could and said to this god kneeling on one leg.
The guards also heard the trifle but they seem to be scared to leave their post to intervene.
Austin, did you just say my uncle? Asher frowned at Austin’s statement,
And it didn't come to your notice that I should be informed as well? Asher slowly turned to Austin as he asked with the corner of his lips slightly raised in smirk.
Now i see the face of my abductor and i know his name, i said to the man kneeling on one leg’
The grown looked at me and ignored me like i was never there.
My Lord we only take orders from Alpha Bertram, he never instructed us to inform you. Austin responded with traces of mockery in his tone.
Why not call me by my name? Why call me Lord? The god asked Austin with a dangerous smile on his face.
Austin seemed to be aware that his strength is nowhere compared to this god before him so he kept quiet,.
Take her away, He said to Austin.
Alpha Bertram asked that we take her to the room prepared for her, Austin replied
‘Whatever’ the god said again and left like nothing happened.
I was initially burning with fury at this being whom i call a god with his rude and disrespectful attitude, i instantly became void of response,
‘He is definitely not my mate, this is the worst impression ever’ I said and sighed holding my long silver hair in my hands as i stared at His perfectly structured retreating appearance.
Austin turned to me saying," i will come back for you in thirty minutes".
Wait! Why was I kidnapped? I asked hoping i would get a reason why i was kidnapped, i mean i saw his face already.
Austin, who was about to take his leave, halted and turned to her.
Don't be in such a haste my darling soon to be Luna, you would know when you meet with my Lord. Austin said
Oh, it turns out you know alot about me. I replied sarcastically.
‘Why would my Lord bring you here if he knows nothing about you? Of course he does know alot and so do i’, Austin turned and left with a grin on his face.
I wanted to say something but Austin gave no room, I wanted to ask who that hot guy was since he wasn't involved in my kidnap.
Wait a minute, what was that about? Why does that voice sound familiar?Alicia asked Luna.
I tried to remember but I began to feel darkness clouding my mind, the harder i try, the more i feel this agonizing headache.
I knelt down immediately trying to put myself together to suppress the hurt from the headache.
I must have stressed my brain today, I have gone through alot, i thought to myself.
Alicia was left alone in the magnificent hall, she met herself standing in the middle of a magnificent breathtaking hall, the settings in the hall were screaming luxury, furniture, paintings, and artefacts all looking like they were made of diamonds.
Is this the afterlife Dad talked about? Alicia asked herself,
But i am not dead, she said, she winced in pain as she pinched herself to be sure, she turned around to survey her surroundings in a daze,
A few minutes later, her sight caught a giant sitter, it’s beauty from a distance was undeniably attractive.
Alicia could not help but move closer, it's an actual throne she mumbles, mumbling to herself, she was lost in her own world of admiration as she climbed the sixth step.
She looked at the footstool of gold, stretched her arm in aim of touching the arm rests on each side of the seat with statues of two wolves standing beside the armrests obviously speaking power, wealth and authority. It could easily pass as a royal seat.
This does not look like the shape of a normal werewolf's head, she became curious as her instincts kicked in. There must be more to this, she said.
What could this pack possibly want from me?, what pack are they exactly?, how would a pack possess such immense wealth?. Alicia asked herself these questions with no one to give answers to them.
‘What do you think you are doing? Beta Brayan’s deep voice resonated the hall causing echo to repeat each word he said
Alicia missed her step before she could place her buts on the throne, she fell to the ceramic floor with a thud, she creamed and her face twitched in pain.
Asher rushed to the scene,a glint of horror plastered on his face seeing Alicia on the ground whining in pain but in seconds it couldn't be traced. He raised his head looking at Brayan like he would tear him apart.
Brayan stammered in fear, she wanted to sit on the Alpha’s throne when i came in, she missed her steps and fell, she really has some guts my Lord.
No i didn't, Alicia defended
What was it that you were doing before you landed on the floor the moment you heard my voice? Brayan responded
Brayan diverted Asher’s attention to Alicia so he wouldn't be blamed. Asher rolled his eyes in a “ did I ask for an explanation” manner.
I was only admiring the throne, Alicia defended again.
Asher looked at Alicia with seriousness in his eyes, their eyes met but he left without a word
Brayan rushed to Alicia, he picked her up and whispered close to her ears, you almost provoked the devil this time, pray you never fall into his trap, or else you would be dead before you even think of it be warned, then led her to her room.
But before Brayan could take a step, Luna snapped into defensive mode. I am not going anywhere, she said, rooted to the spot, a heavy breeze followed suit and slapped Brayan’s face blowing his hair as well.
What the hell was that? Brayan wanted to raise his voice at her but stopped mid-way when he met her eyes, Alicia’s silver-colored Iris turned grim and scarier like some demonic devil possesses her.
Brian Stepped back unconsciously, his environment became oddly cold, and the aura she exuded was terrifying, almost at par with Asher’s.
The last time he remembered, he only asked that she follow him to her room, he didn't attack or scare her in any way possible.
What sort of a mood swing is this.. Brayan said with his hands on his waist, he needed to find a way to appease her.
Why is she acting all defensive now, she should have done this before then we wouldn't be able to kidnap her. Brayan said inwardly.
‘Hey, you need to calm down, I am only taking you to your room, I promise I am not touching you in any way, you can't stay here, the servants have already prepared a beautiful room for you so you can rest for the day’. Brayan said to Alicia, raising his two hands in assurance.
Hey, can you hear me? Bryan called out clapping his hands to make her snap out of whatever she was in,
Alicia jolted as he came back to her senses, dizziness enveloped her and she fainted almost immediately.
Bryan didn't move close to Alica, he called the male servants instead to carry her to the room prepared for her.
Look! The first servant said to the other with disbelief
Lightning was oozing all around her this time.
Chapter Three:
Denial
“Sir, she’s defensive even in her unconscious state. I think we should let her be until she regains consciousness,” the second servant said to Bryan.
“Cowards, you can’t even move close to this weakling?” Bryan mocked them.
The servants hesitated, standing a few feet away from Alicia. They had never witnessed such a scene and weren’t sure of what awaited them if they dared touch her.
“Move closer?” Bryan yelled at the servants.
Fearfully, they complied, inching closer to Alicia.
“Carry her from her hands,” said Servant One to Servant Two.
“No, since when did you start giving orders?” Servant Two replied. “You carry her hands, and I’ll carry her legs.”
The servants twisted and turned, trying to figure out how to lift Alicia, but they still couldn’t touch her. Bryan, fuming with rage, stepped forward and kicked them out of the way.
A loud bang reverberated through the hall, and part of the wall in the hallway shattered under Bryan’s force.
Bryan was violently thrown against the wall by Alicia. The crash was deafening. The sound resonated throughout the mansion, and the guards instantly went into defense mode, gathering at the scene. Residents rushed to investigate what had happened.
“What’s going on here?” Austin asked, rushing into the room after hearing the noise.
The second servant explained what had occurred, and Austin immediately went to help Bryan, who was partially paralyzed on his left leg.
“Call the head physician. And the head priest as well,” Austin ordered as he assisted Bryan back to his room. He didn’t even glance at Alicia, nor did he show any interest in asking about her.
“Everyone, move back. Return to your posts,” a deep, authoritative voice commanded from behind.
Everyone turned in unison, startled by the newcomer. The voice sent a shiver through the crowd.
Asher stepped forward, his gaze falling on Alicia. Without a word, he crossed the room and picked her up effortlessly.
The servants and onlookers were left dumbfounded as Alicia’s body, which had been surrounded by a strange energy earlier, seemed to calm as soon as Asher lifted her. They whispered among themselves, admiring Asher’s power and speculating about his influence.
“Yes, my Lord,” the servant stammered, leading Asher to Alicia’s room.
Asher returned to his quarters and threw himself onto his king-sized bed. His thoughts swirled like a storm, his head racing with questions. His mind flashed back to the scene earlier. How could he have acted so recklessly? What had driven him to rush to Alicia’s side like some mindless fool?
"No," he muttered, shaking his head vigorously. "She’s not my mate. She can’t be."
His thoughts spun out of control. The anger inside him was overwhelming. Why had he reacted the way he did? The power he’d felt when she’d fallen—it was undeniable, but he couldn’t be led astray by his emotions. His wolf, however, had other plans.
"You felt it too," his wolf’s voice echoed in his mind. "We both know what it was."
"Shut up," Asher snapped, his frustration boiling over.
"Let me take charge," his wolf howled. "You’re clearly struggling with this. Let me handle it."
Asher rolled his eyes in frustration, realizing he couldn’t win against his wolf’s constant bickering. "Fine," he muttered. "But we’re not doing anything rash."
His wolf didn’t stop there. "The next time you see her, don’t wait for her to make a move. Grab her. Pull her close. Lean in and whisper in her ear, 'Have we met before? You look just like my mate. Do you have a name or can I just call you mine?'"
Asher groaned. "You’re insufferable."
Images of Alicia’s silver irises danced in his mind, and his heart thudded painfully in his chest. His body was on fire with a longing he couldn’t deny. He wanted to hold her. But he couldn’t—he had to resist. She was a threat to everything he knew, everything he believed in.
“Damn it,” Asher muttered under his breath. "I can't let this happen. She’s dangerous. She’s already messing with my mind."
His wolf was relentless. "She's not the enemy, Asher. We both know it."
Asher’s head spun with confusion. He couldn’t understand it. Why had his uncle, Bertram, gone this far? Why had he kidnapped Alicia, knowing the bond between them? Asher's mind raced as he tried to piece together the puzzle, but the pieces didn’t fit.
"Why her?" he asked aloud, his voice full of frustration. "Why would Bertram kidnap her, of all people?"
He couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something bigger at play. Something far more sinister than he had imagined. But his uncle had always been a shadow in his life, a schemer, and now it seemed like his plans had come to light in the worst possible way.
Asher clenched his fists. “He must be playing a dangerous game. I’ll find out what he’s up to. I’ll expose him.”
A sharp knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. “Enter,” he called, irritated.
A tall, broad-shouldered figure stepped into the room. He knelt before Asher, his posture reverent.
“Yes, my Lord?” Callum asked, his voice low.
“Get to the point,” Asher commanded.
Callum hesitated for a moment before speaking again. “Has it occurred to you, my Lord, that the girl—Alicia—might be your mate?”
Asher froze. The words hit him like a freight train. "What are you saying?"
Callum didn’t raise his head. “The signs are all there, my Lord. I know you’ve felt it. The pull, the bond. You can’t ignore it.”
Asher let out a deep sigh, his mind spinning. “I don’t want to hear it,” he barked, his voice cold.
Callum didn’t flinch. “Does this mean you found her?” he asked, his tone laced with curiosity.
“I didn’t say anything about finding anyone,” Asher replied, his words sharp. "But I need answers about my uncle. He’s the one who kidnapped her. I want to know why. Get to the bottom of it in three days. I’ll want a full report."
“Yes, my Lord,” Callum said, standing quickly and leaving the room without another word.
Alicia awoke to a pounding headache. Her body felt weak, and as she rubbed her temples, she groaned, wondering what kind of nightmare she had stumbled into.
“This doesn’t feel right,” she muttered, struggling to sit up. “What’s going on?”
Her eyes scanned the room, and her heart sank. This was not the small, humble room she was used to. It looked like something out of a dream—everything was lavish, elegant, and clearly meant to make a statement. But it didn’t comfort her. It made her skin crawl.
She walked to the window and pulled the blinds open. Morning had arrived, but she had no idea how long she’d been unconscious. The daylight felt harsh against her eyes.
“What’s happened to me?” she whispered. “How did I end up here?”
She walked over to the bed and kicked it in frustration. “Do they think I’m a child?” she muttered, disgusted by the pink and frilly décor. This wasn’t her world.
A wave of exhaustion hit her, and she sank to the floor, tears welling up in her eyes. “Why does it have to be me? Why do I have to suffer alone?” She shook her head, feeling the weight of her fate. “Moon Goddess, please… help me.”
Just as the tears began to fall, there was a knock at the door. She didn’t respond at first, but the knocking continued, persistent.
“Come in or just leave,” she muttered, too tired to care.
The door opened, and a young girl, almost as young as Alicia, entered. She was dressed in a neat maid’s uniform, carrying a tray of food.
“Good morning, my Lady. I’ve brought your breakfast,” the girl said, her voice sweet and kind. She placed the tray on the table beside Alicia’s bed. “My name is Chloe. Please ring this bell if you need anything.”
Alicia looked at the meal, her stomach growling despite herself. She had no energy to deal with kindness. Still, she could feel Chloe’s gentle nature.
“I don’t need anything,” Alicia said bitterly, her frustration spilling out. Chloe nodded quietly and left the room, leaving Alicia to her thoughts.
Before Alicia could process anything more, the door opened again, and this time, the air in the room seemed to shift. Asher stood there, with Bryan and Austin behind him.
“Morning, my dear,” Asher’s voice was smooth, dripping with both charm and menace. “I trust your journey here wasn’t too unpleasant?”
Alicia stood up, forcing her anger to the surface. “We met yesterday, didn’t we? You acted like you didn’t know anything about my kidnapping.”
Asher’s smile widened. “Oh, my bad. I spoke with my uncle yesterday. It turns out I’ll be handling things from here on out.” He stepped closer, his eyes narrowing. “As for why you were brought here, don’t worry, dear Luna. All will be revealed soon enough.”
Alicia’s heart pounded. “You know my name?”
Asher took another step forward, his eyes not leaving hers. “Yes, I know your name. And I’m sure we’ll have plenty of time to get to know each other.”
Alicia’s fists clenched in fury. “What do you want from me?”
Asher moved even closer, his presence overwhelming her. His gaze lingered on her for a moment before he circled his arms around her. “What if I told you that you’re my mate?”
Alicia froze, her body going rigid. “What?” she whispered, recoiling from him.
Asher’s smile widened as his fangs began to protrude, sharp and dangerous. “Take a moment, Alicia. You’ll feel the pull. The sparks. Just cooperate, and everything will fall into place.”
Alicia struggled, pushing against his grip. “Take your filthy hands off me!” she spat, but he didn’t release her. Instead, he leaned in closer, his lips brushing her ear.
